MH370: Malaysia ready to deploy all assets: Hishammuddin

Malaysia is all set to send out all its assets once experts have refined the new search area in the Indian ocean.

Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the search and recovery (SAR) operation was in the transition phase and two survey ships were deployed to map the seabed.

"We have never stopped looking for (the missing jetliner) MH370. Together with China and Australia, we are conducting the bathymetric survey of the ocean floor.

"Two vessels, a Chinese vessel-the Zhu Kezhen and a Dutch vessel- the Fugro Equator, are conducting survey of the seabed," he told reporters after being briefed on klia2 updates and preparations for the launch of the newly built low-budget carrier terminal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Tuesday.

In this respect, Hishammuddin said Malaysia, China and Australia would disclose the new seach area soon.

"I believe in one and two weeks, we will announce the actual (new) area that (the SAR) will be focusing on."

On asset deployment, he said Malaysia would send out vessels and equipment obtained from both the government and private sector that could assist in locating the missing aircraft.

He added Petronas and DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies (Deftech) had identified the asset that could be used in the search namely the Prosas towed side scan sonar and the Go Phoenix vessel, whereas SapuraKencana Petroleum provided survey equipment- the multi beam echo sounder and sub bottom profiler. - NST
