Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic) denied a report by a newspaper in the United Kingdom (UK) today that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was now the prime suspect over the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
The acting transport minister criticised The Sunday Times, calling it irresponsible and only having the intention to increase its circulation, Bernama reported today.
"If we want to entertain the newspapers in UK, they will have new stories every day.
"If there is a basis to it, they have to give us the proof and leads. We will investigate. There is no need to announce it in the newspapers," he told reporters after the 1Veteran 1Malaysia: Jasa Mu Sentiasa Dikenang dan Dihargai event in Kluang, Johor, today.
Hishammuddin reiterated that Malaysia has always been consistent with regards to how it releases any information on the missing airliner.
"Confirmation from experts and relevant authorities would have to be obtained before any information could be made public," Bernama quoted him as saying.
He added that all known information had also been made clear by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
"So, we should not entertain conspiracy theories because if there is something that is hidden, there'll be parties that will protest," Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, told Bernama.
The Sunday Times in UK reported in a front-page story today that Malaysian police considered the flight MH370 pilot as the chief suspect over the plane's mysterious disappearance.
MAS flight MH370 departed from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing in the early hours of March 8 with 239 passengers and crew, and after making its last communication with civil air traffic control, it disappeared from radar about an hour later.
It was later found to have made a turn back over Peninsular Malaysia before heading south and is thought to have ended its journey in the southern Indian Ocean. - TheMalaysianInsider
