Kuala Lumpur : Umno president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the party's executive secretary, Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh filed a defamation suit against the company, chief editor and editor in chief of the website portal Malaysiakini regarding the publication of two articles last month.
Writ of summons filed through Tetuan Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak on Friday at the High Court registry.
Media obtained a writ of summons yesterday.
Najib and Ab Rauf (on behalf of UMNO ) Mkini company name Dotcom Sdn Bhd , Chief Editor Malaysiakini.com , Steven Gan and Chief Editor , Fathi Aris Omar as the first to third defendants .
In his statement of claim, he and Ab Rauf claimed the defendants were reporting, producing and allowing two separate articles titled ‘A case of the PM Reaping what he sows and Najib How much will spend to keep Terengganu?’ The article allegedly published on 14 May.
Plaintiffs said the two articles published in the ' Yoursay ' at website portal www.malaysiakini.com to gather comments from users of the portal selected and combined into an article under the headline.

According to them, the defendants knew and realized that by allowing the two articles published, it indirectly in the form of republication of the defamatory and implications of the plaintiff.
Defamatory words in the article which is understood to mean incompetent UMNO as a political party and the backbone of the Barisan Nasional ( BN) , do not have integrity, racist , immoral and deliberately mislead the people to turn into evil conspiracy.
Najib also said that the defamatory words which mean he is not qualified to be a politician, a president and prime minister , no integrity, racist , immoral and untrustworthy his sincerity .
Both plaintiffs said the article was defamatory comments made without any basis and only malicious allegation for causing tension between the people against them, causing them to be involved in a public scandal, shamed and humiliated by the public and the international community.
Reputation hit hard
Publishing those articles is causing their reputation badly affected, as well as the authority in question and the damage will take a long time because of the issue of corruption and racism scandal spotlight.
Plaintiff said through lawyers sent notices dated 15 May to the defendant to apologize and retract the article, but the defendant said notices using proper defense for public comment and offer the plaintiff an opportunity to respond to the defamatory article.
Plaintiff, however, answered the letter on May 28 to accept the offer on the grounds that the defendant did not deny the defendant's bare assertion totally baseless and defamatory words published it.
Defendants also published another article entitled ‘Najib Threatens To Sue Over Mkini Reader's Comment’s on May 16 and also gave his comments are reproduced, as well as collecting user comments through the article titled ‘Najib 's Legal Action Aims To Silence Malaysiakini’ published the next day.
Umno and Najib respect of each defendant’s claim for damages including general, special , aggravated exaggeration and an injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing the article and an apology in writing published in the print media .
During the proceedings yesterday, High Court Judicial Commissioner, SM Komathy Suppiah set on June 18 for case management.
