Lead tarawih prayers across the country during Ramadan

Kuala Lumpur: A total of 35 hafiz priests sponsored by the Government of Saudi Arabia for leading tarawih prayers in selected mosques across the country during Ramadan.

Director General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), Datuk Othman Mustapha, said each state would have two priests leading tarawih prayers but three priests in Sarawak and five in Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan.

"The Government expresses its deepest appreciation and gratitude to the government of Saudi Arabia; Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Salih Sheikh Ala; Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia, Abdullah Fahad Al Rasyed.

Invite foreign priests 

"In addition, we have invited the tarawih priest from within and outside of the country to be placed in four mosques under the supervision of JAKIM and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), which consist of Masjid Negara and the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur and Putra Mosque and Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Putrajaya, "he said in a statement yesterday.

Othman also said, for the National Mosque, the priest is Sheikh Abdurrahman el-Dousuky  Taha Radwan from Egypt who was a tarawih priest in the mosque since 2010.

Meanwhile, the invited priest for Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in turn is Sheikh Dr. Abdul Samy Abdul Rahman Al-Fakky from Egypt and Zimbabwe Mufti, Sheikh Ismail Musa Menk.
