"We have a challenge that I want to seek your assistance to help restore (this).
"Most of the youth, Malaysia Gen-Y, away from the market, either as an investor or a career choice," said Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Bhd, Datuk Tajuddin Atan in a keynote address at the Awards Investor Relations (IR) 4th Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He said that so far the exchange has provided a number of initiatives to involve young people and spark their interest in the capital market.
In April this year, it introduced the Exchange Marketplace, an online destination and community for retail investors to obtain accurate and objective information about the market.
Bursa Bursa Malaysia has also launched Fantasy Football Trader Challenge last week to allow investors to use the World Cup players, in order to better understand the use of the appliance investors and traders.
Tajuddin said Malaysia has the second highest number of new players joining the field of employment in the world among major global markets.
He believes that only with the participation of the younger generation, long-term sustainability of the market can be achieved.
"We would like to invite you to be part of this effort to educate and develop the knowledge of Gen-Y to switch from saving for the future, to invest for the future," he said.
Earlier, Tajuddin said IR best practices can contribute to a company's stock reaches fair value.
"The recognition will be given to companies and IR today will increase the importance of IR in the operations of a company," he said.
