Cops: Syndicate likely using women as drug mules

KOTA KINABALU: The police here are investigating if there is a syndicate using women as drug mules following the arrest of a second Chinese national in two weeks at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

In the latest incident, a 24-year-old woman was caught with 2kg of syabu after she touched down from an AirAsia flight from Hong Kong at about 11.30pm on July 6.

The drug, with a street value estimated at RM400,000, was found in her luggage.

Sabah Customs director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok said the woman was travelling alone and carrying a pink suitcase as she walked through the arrival hall.

Sensing something amiss, Customs officers stopped her.

They found the packet in a hidden compartment of her luggage.

“Our officers are trained to be on the lookout for people behaving suspiciously,” said Janathan, adding that they were investigating if the passenger was part of a syndicate. - The Star Online
